Marrying creative design with technology
Nearing the end of the five-year experiment, MTSC is collating the learnings and impact on the partner institutions and venture development from participating in this experiment. In this piece, we look at how MTSC activities have married creative design with technology at the Royal College of Art (RCA). Bringing in £356,759 in funding to the institution through the support of five projects across two cohorts, and £9 million in follow-on funding from public and private investors, there has been great success. The supported ventures include an innovative wearable device to support people with Parkinson’s, smart textiles that assist those with neurological conditions in the recovery of upper limb function & haptic robotics paired with VR to simulate physical examinations for training doctors.
